Christmas Poem

I stumbled upon this poem today and I thought it was beautiful enough to share. I hope you all like it and you all have a very Merry, fun filled, and loving Christmas.
See you all in the New Year!

Christmas isn't showy gifts
 Or glittering decoration;
 It's honoring our Savior, Jesus Christ
 In humble adoration.
It's serving those less fortunate,
 Meeting their needs before our own;
 It's making sure at Christmas time
 That no one is alone.
It's taking what we would have spent
 On things that no one needs,
 And using it to help someone
 With service and good deeds.
Our Savior showed us how to live
 With charity, faith and service.
 It makes the holidays a joy,
 More peaceful, and less nervous.
So let's remember Christmas is
 About our Savior's birth;
 That's the way to happiness,
 The way to peace on earth.

Upcoming Bazaar

Hello Wonderful CCS Families,

I hope that you are all planning to come to the Bazaar next weekend. It looks like there will be a lot of really great crafts to buy that your children have worked so hard on. I'm sure the baking will be delicious and the candy jars are always fun. The gently used handbags should prove to be fun also. I have attached a great soup recipe that Mrs. Mahussier just passed on I hope that some of you try it and enjoy it.
Black Bean Vegetable Soup
1tbsp veg. oil
1 onion chopped
1garlic clove, chopped fine
2 carrots chopped
2 tsps. chili powder
1 tsp. ground cumin
4 c. veg. or chicken stock
2 cans black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can corn kernels
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 can diced tomatoes
4 tbsp. chopped parsley (optional)

In large heavy saucepan, heat oil over med. heat, Add onion, garlic, and carrots; sauté for 5 min. or until onion is tender, stirring frequently. Add chili powder and cumin, cook for 1 min. stirring constantly. Add stock, 1 can beans, corn and pepper, & bring to a boil.
Meanwhile in food processor or blender, puree together tomatoes and remaining can of beans; Add to pot. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until carrots are tender. Sprinkle with parsley.

Please pass on any great recipes that you have especially for stews, chili's and soups that will keep me warm over the cold winter.

Adams River Salmon Run

If you haven't had a chance to experience the Adams River Salmon Run you really need to try and experience it one year. This year was the big 4 year run. Between Oct. 5 & 26 approximately 3.5 million Salmon returned to Adams Lake to spawn. Between the fall leaves, and the bright red Salmon it was truly beautiful. You can't help but be awed by so many Salmon having travelled all the way from Alaska.

Let it Rain! Let it Rain! Let in Rain!

Looks like the rain is here to stay for a while. One of my favourite activities with my children when they were younger was puddle jumping. We would dress the kids in rain gear and their tall rubber boots and find the best puddles to make a splash in. I hope that all of you can find some fun this rainy season.

I discovered a fun walk recently. If you drive north bound on 168th street towards 96th Avenue, just before 96th Ave. there is a park. No one ever uses this park. I took my dog Charlie there to throw the ball to her. We went exploring while we were there and discovered that if you walk to the back of the field ( heading west) there are pathways that open up into a forest area. You can walk for quite a while in this area, it opens into other fields and creeks and an area where new trees were just planted. There is so much to explore and see. I love walking under the protection of the trees on a rainy day, when you can hear the rain hitting the trees but you can't feel it because you are covered.

Stop by the office and let me know where your favourite place to walk is. I am always looking for a new place to explore.

Thank you for your warm welcome.

Hello CCS Families,

I want to thank you all for the warm welcome you have given me.
I feel truly blessed to work here at Cloverdale Catholic School.
My four children all came to CCS and I loved it here when they were at school but to work here is even more special. It feels like I have come home in a sense. It is hard to believe that my oldest child will be having a child of his own soon. Maybe he too will come to CCS one day.

I am starting to know the names of some of you now. Others I am still working on. Please continue to stop by and say hi so that I do get to know you all.
